EMS suite of tools

EcoMapping™

EcoMapping™ is a simple and practical (and thus time and cost-efficient) way for businesses to achieve an informal EMS, for which ECAP can provide recognition. It also provides a platform for  independent third-party certification if required.

EcoMapping™ provides a map of the business marking the location of environmental practices and problems. Seven maps, each one dealing with an environmental aspect, such as water and waste management, are prepared.  EcoMapping™ and ECAP’s recognition of progress can be readily adapted to business requirements.

A poll on the opinion of employees about the business’s environmental performance and a chart detailing the flow of materials into and out of the business accompany the maps. It also incorporates a filing system for the environmental information.

Registered consultants will assist businesses in the review of their EcoMapping™ documents so that ECAP can issue a certificate of participation and recognition of performance to EcoMapping™ expectations. Businesses participating in EcoMapping™ will be recognised on the ECAP website.

EMAS Easy™

EMAS Easy™ was developed to comply with the European Eco-Management and Audit Scheme. Although similar to ISO14001, it is a different standard. The main point of difference relates to external communication of the EMS and environmental achievements (introduced under the final level of certification).
This tool is well established and recognised in Europe and throughout the European Union (EU), where one company a day is being certified EMAS compliant. EMAS Easy™ is often referred to as a 30-step process. The manual can found on-line at www.emaseasy.eu The tool is best used through a registered consultant.

Options for a global certification using the EMAS model are being considered. Australia is well placed to participate in the global action through ECAP's relationship with its EU- partner organisations, www.ecoconseil-entreprise.be.
